Sunshades Barbados, vacation rentals Frequently Asked Questions and Answers </h1> We have listed many questions that we often get asked here and we hope you will find them useful. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask. How much does the holiday accommodation cost? The apartment villa costs £149 to rent for a stay of 7 nights, however at certain times we do offer very special offers. All utilities and air conditioning are included in this price. Where about is Sunshades Barbados located in Barbados?The holiday apartment villa Sunshades is located in Fitts Village, St James Barbados which is on the West side of the Island. How Close is the Nearest Supermarket?As Sunshades Barbados is a self catering holiday accommodation, it offers a fully equipped kitchen with utensils and the nearest supermarket is about a 15 min stroll down the road. Sunshades Barbados likes to offer you a special personal service and gets one or two essential items in for upon your arrival including juice to drink. How much is the flight to Barbados? Flights vary a lot depending on who you travel with, the time of year you are traveling and how early or late you make your booking however for guidance you will probably find flights to be in the region of £250 - £700. How long is the flight? Assuming you have a direct flight, the flying time is usually between 71/2 hours and 8 hours but can be dependent upon weather conditions etc. Are the flights direct? You will find both direct and non direct flights whereby you stop at another Island on the way (thus adding to your journey time). Similarly you may find that flights from Manchester will stop at Gatwick first. It is important to ask about this at the time of making your flight enquiries. How do you get to the apartment? On arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by our Sunshades Representative and taken to the apartment where you will find your representative will ensure that you are settled in. All of this is free of charge. You will also be taken back to the airport (free of charge again) when it is time to go home. What is the weather like? Barbados is warm all year round. January/February are their cooler months although this is still T-Shirt and beach weather. Is there a rainy season? Barbados does have a rainy season which is usually the months of September and October. However you will find in these months that the rain comes in heavy but short showers and then the sun comes out and dries it all up. Several hours after you would not know that it had rained earlier. Again during this time, it is still warm and the locals find this refreshing. What about hurricanes? As Barbados is one of the most easterly Caribbean Islands, most years the hurricanes never reach Barbados. The hurricane season is the same as America and during this time when a hurricane is on the horizon, Barbados usually suffers with more wind and cloud than normal. Do you need to have any vaccinations? When making any travel arrangements, you should always consult your doctors and ask for their advice. However, as long as your usual vaccinations like tetanus etc are up to date, there is no specific requirement and need to have a string of vaccinations. What is the difference between Barbados and the UK? Depending on whether the UK is in summertime or not, Barbados are 4 or 5 hours behind the UK. What language do they speak? Bajans which is the name for the locals speak their own adapted version of the English language and as such you should not have to much difficulty with translation. What currency does Barbados have? Barbados has its own currency called the Barbados dollar (BDS$). You will also find that the US dollar (US$) is widely accepted in shops, restaurants and bars. Currently (March 2008) there is approximately BDS$4 to £1 although this is dependent on exchange rates. You will find that BDS$2 equals US$1 and this exchange rate is accepted widely around the Island. What side of the road do they drive on? Barbados drives on the left side of the road like the UK. Can I use my UK driving license? As long as you have a full UK license you will need to get a visiting drivers permit which is valid for 12 months. You can purchase this from the local police station or the rental company can arrange this and the cost is somewhere in the region of BDS$30. Are there any dress codes? Barbados is proud of its Island and so are the locals and as such you are expected to ensure that you are dressed appropriately at all times i.e. that men always wear t-shirts (other than when you on the beach). Ladies are expected to wear appropriate beach wear at all times and no topless sunbathing is allowed. What electrical voltage does Barbados have? Barbados runs on 110V electrical current although the apartment has been adapted to supply both local 10V and the UK 240V.
